Cardiology and Pneumology

The Clinic for Cardiology and Pneumology is headed by Professor Dr. Gerd Hasenfuß. The clinic offers internal medical emergency treatment as well as six wards for the inpatient treatment of patients with cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. The internal medicine ICU (1026) and the Chest Pain Unit (1025) are reserved for the most gravely ill patients. The newly equipped interdisciplinary lung ward (4021) accepts patients with pulmonary diseases in need of the most up-to-date surgical and internal medical care. A total of 14 senior physicians and 36 assistant physicians constitute the core of the diagnostic and therapeutic team. All wards and functional areas adhere to the newest evidence-based guidelines as well as the most recent study results from the fields of cardiology and pneumology when designing diagnosis and therapy. The modern laboratories for heart and lung function testing serve the analysis and treatment of the many forms of functional cardiovascular and pulmonary disorders.

An important part of the work done in the Clinic for Cardiology and Pneumology is dedicated to guaranteeing the close-knit and interdisciplinary care of our patients together with the other partners in the Heart Center Göttingen. This is especially true for the areas of coronary heart diseases, heart valve diseases, arrhythmias and congenital heart disease. This means providing a seamless, common treatment plan, regularly scheduled consultations for the respective patient groups as well as interdisciplinary conferences within the Heart Center Göttingen. Our goal is to ensure that every patient is treated as an individual and with the therapeutic methods best suited to his or her affliction.
